I paid for my first year at a large university with scholarships, grants, cash, and leftover education award $$ from an internship with the National Park Service!
Summer school was over, and the fall semester was just around the corner.
That summer I received my financial aid award letter from EMU, and my tuition was a little over $10,000, but up to $12-14,000 with fees and books and such.
I would be receiving about $6,000 through the Pell grant. Check out a previous blog entitled "I USED THE PELL GRANT FOR GAS MONEY." (This was made possible because I had more money than I needed for that year, woo!)
Eastern Michigan University (EMU) gave me their Regents scholarship, the highest award for transfer students. This subtracted $3000 from my tuition bill.
I was also given the opportunity for $3000 in work study (although I did not actually use all of it).
More on that in a future blog.
I still had $5209.50 left from my AmeriCorps Segal Education Award (when I worked under the National Park Service). More on that in a past blog "The NATIONAL PARK SERVICE Paid For (Some) of My College!!"
Then the university gave me a $1000 Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, the honor society I was in at my community college. Yet again, more on that in my previous blog entitled "How to Leverage Honor Society Scholarships."
I was ready for my first semester at a large, 4-year university!
