Night School... dun dun dun...

My internal chaos felt a bit like the above picture. Unsteady, but with a smile on my face because I felt like I was going somewhere, even when it was dark out...

Night school.

It was October 2014. I think the previous year of DSST failures (see last blog post) kind of made me reevaluate what I was doing.

I participated in a historical reenactment in my hometown, and got to dress up in the above picture's splendor. Who knows what we were doing in this pic!? But I do know it was the same semester that I started doing "regular" college.

I never had anything against regular college, it's just that I started with testing out of classes right out of high school, so that I could get 33 college credits for only $2400. But there came a time where traditional college was both convenient, affordable, and enjoyable!

You see, I had to take a computer class because most any degree requires at least one CIS (computer information systems) class, and I wasn’t exactly trusting myself to pass a lot more DSSTs.

I had a job during the day at the local library, so I decided to take CIS 130 at my local community college at night. It was 1 class at a community college and I had been saving for a couple years. I paid cash.

I had to actually go to class on time... shocker. Actually, I ended up liking the routine, and I'd like to throw out the suggestion that anyone interested in going to college or back to school but tight on time, just try a night class.

They're often 2x per week (depends on the school), and if you start with an "easy" class, it can be a great way to ease into college. But what's an easy class?

I'd suggest connecting with a school counselor to see what your degree requires, or what every degree requires even if you don't know what you want to study, and starting there. What are you interested in? A "fun" class like that might be an "easy" start for you.

I'm not necessarily suggesting that you always go the easy way in life. But if you strongly dislike chemistry, maybe just don't start there(:

Also, check out ratemyprofessor.com, or contact some students you know at the school, to look for professors who are clear to understand, helpful, and interesting!

Anywayssssss, I ended up having a great prof who was easy to understand, and there wasn't an unnecessary amount of homework. I was starting to like this school, and wondering if I should go back the following semester???
